Abby's Garden is the daycare ministry Tonya Storment helped start in La Vega, the town where the Storments lived in the Dominican Republic from 2017-2020.
The daycare has several purposes:
- First and foremost, we provide excellent care for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Daycares in the DR are usually government-run institutions where the child to caregiver ratio is 15:1. At Abby’s Garden, not only do we keep the ratio to no more than six kids per worker, but we also teach them about Jesus and His love for them.
- To provide opportunities to share the Gospel with the parents and also to encourage them in their parenting, both at the meetings we regularly have and through book clubs.
- To provide jobs for women in the DR, who otherwise don't have many opportunities for finding good employment. In this way, we “help the poor,” as the Bible instructs us to do.
- The reality is that in the DR, both parents have to work to support the family. That makes childcare a basic need for most families. We are meeting this need through Abby’s Garden.
Tonya makes regular trips to La Vega to deliver supplies for Abby’s Garden, to oversee that things are going well and that our goals are being met, as well as to spend time with the kids of Abby’s Garden. She visits twice a year and always holds a meeting with the parents of Abby’s Garden kids while she’s there.
Please prayerfully consider giving to Abby's Garden. $125 per month will cover the cost of one child receiving loving care, food, and hearing stories of Jesus and His love. Monthly supporters help immensely so that we know what we can count on each month. One-time or occasional donations also help greatly.
