Helena serves at Black Forest Academy in Kandern, Germany, teaching Home Basics to high school students.
Black Forest Academy provides a quality, international Christian education that equips its students to influence their world through biblical thought, character, and action. It offers schooling options for students living in the area and a boarding school option for grades 9-12. Their mission is to support missionaries from around the world by serving the children of those missionaries through education as well as providing emotional, relational, and spiritual care.
Like many of the students she is currently teaching, Helena grew up overseas and in fact graduated from BFA herself (Class of '99). She enjoys teaching the practical skills that students are able to learn in the Home Basics classroom such as: hand sewing, machine sewing, home and car maintenance, budgeting and finances, resume writing and interviewing, baking and cooking. These are the physical skills needed to create and maintain a home. She is also able to teach God's Word, which addresses the foundational wisdom by which God created the whole world. Each one of us is called to use this same wisdom to create and maintain the unseen relational aspects of the home (with God and each other).
Helena is married to Gary, who is serving with Operation Mobilization. They have four children, their youngest three of which are currently attending Black Forest Academy.
All staff at the school raise their salary to serve at the school through financial gifts from individuals, communities, organizations and foundations. Thank you for partnering with us!
